You ever get the feeling that somethings missing from your life? Do you experience the feeling of having a void where nothing seems to be as fulfilling as it once was? Can I tell you a secret? You’re not going crazy, you’re missing the most important part of you…JESUS! I know you’re saying, “what are you talking about, I go to church every Sunday, Jesus knows me well. I’ve been attending church services all of my life. I sing in the choir and I even attend Bible study sessions.” And this could all be true. Jesus knows you, but do you know Jesus? The common misconception with those of us who grow up being taken to church is that we assume because we’ve been surrounded by the Christian culture that we automatically know Jesus. It’s true, we know all of His names. He is Jehovah (Lord), Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord our Righteousness), Jehovah Rophe (The Lord who heals), Yeshua (Savior), etc. We know a lot about Him but do we know Him? If we did we would know that when we were created (born) we were created with a Jesus shaped void. And if the void is Jesus shaped then it’s obvious only Jesus could fill that void. So how is it that I think your Jesus shaped void hasn’t been filled with Jesus if you’re at church every Sunday, singing in the choir, and clapping your hands during praise service? Because when you were telling me how it is that you know Jesus, you never mentioned your intimate moments spent with Him. Matthew 6:6 says this, “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Which alludes to the fact that we are to have a personal relationship with Him that takes place outside the four walls of the church. This is where we get to know Him like He knows us.
Having a intimate relationship is much like an intimate relationship between a man and a woman. You talk to each other often, you laugh, you share stories, all with the goal of getting to know one another on a more personal level. Building a relationship with Jesus is no different. You have to talk to Him but you also have to listen to Him talk as well. We women usually like to do all the talking but in this relationship it is even more important that we take on a role of the listener. We have to build this relationship. Building this relationship fills the Jesus shaped void you feel from time to time. Fill that void with all things Jesus. Think about Him, talk about Him, tell your family and friends about Him, honor Him, and praise Him. He loves you! He wants to hear about your day and that customer who called in and mad you mad, and He wants to hear about your boss getting on your nerves, and even about that co-worker who doesn’t like to do any work. Tell Him about your day. Get into the habit of talking to Him about everything, every thought, every fear, everything feeling. Psalm 139:1-5 says, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You known when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.” See, He knows us, let’s get to know Him. Then there will be no more void, no more empty feelings.
Pray this prayer with me
Father I come to you now
Asking for forgiveness for my sins, known and unknown
Sins of omission and commission
I discovered today that the void I’ve been feeling is a Jesus sized void
I need more of you God to fill this void
I want to be engulfed in You, learning daily of your love, your words, and your plans for me
Give me a thirst and a hunger for you God that I may continuously search for you
I realize I need you now more than ever
I know that if my heart is willing then You will lead, guide, and teach me who you are
Increase my knowledge of you and your ways so that I may walk in your will daily
I pray that In constantly die to my will so that I may live in your will
I call it done right now in the name of Jesus
