Hey my loves! I’m so glad you clicked in to read this post. This tells me one of two things, that you are ready to get serious about your relationship with Christ or that you are ready to take your relationship with Christ to a deeper level. If one of those describe you, then I implore you to keep reading.
The world grows more and more evil as the days go on. We are seeing things happening this year that we never thought would or could happen. We’ve had more deaths this year than any other year. What better time to draw close to God than now? The Word of God tells us the importance of prayer. It also tells us the importance of praying in a quiet place. Matthew 6:6 says, “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” See how important it is that we find a quiet place and pray to the Father? In this quiet place is where a real relationship with God is built. I know we pray during church service, we worship when it’s time to worship, and we listen to the pastor while they teach. But inside the four walls of the church is not where the relationship between us and God is deepened. Inside the church is only the beginning of the relationship. Stealing away to a quiet place so that you and God can just talk and you get to know Him better, is where you learn Him. It is where you talk to Him, listen to Him, and discover who He is outside of a praise service.
So now that we know how important it is to enter into a quiet place and pray, what do we need to really get started? I’m so glad you asked. I’ve compiled a small list of essential prayer room (war room) essentials to get you started on your journey of discovering Christ in a deeper way. So let’s dive into this list. Don’t worry, I’ll explain how to put these essentials to use so that you benefit from your prayer time with Jesus right away.
Prayer Room Essentials List
- Bible – We all know what the Bible is, but do we know why God gave us these words? These words were to simply show us who God is, what He’s done, and how we should follow Him. Seems simple right? Starting your prayer time off by reading a few passages of scripture is a good way to settle your mind and focus your thoughts on the things of God. You don’t have to read a whole book LOL, just a few passages you can meditate on. If you don’t know which scriptures to start with, a good idea would be to reread the scriptures your pastor has been teaching from during Sunday services and meditate on them.
- Prayer Journal – A prayer journal usually include notes taken by you during your prayer time with the Lord. It’s nothing more frustrating than hearing from God during prayer and then coming out of your prayer closet and forgetting what is was that He said to you. So I suggest taking a prayer journal into your prayer (war) room.
- Worship Music- Worship music, much like your Bible during this prayer time, does similar things, it settles your mind and focus’ your mind on God. I suggest making a worship playlist that you put on a loop so that the music continues to play during the duration of your prayer time. If you’re familiar with the key players in the Bible, then you know how important music is. Deuteronomy 31 tells us just how important music is. It is so important that God had them to write down a song so that they could teach it to their descendants so that they could remember how good God is. So get you some great worship music and get into God’s presence!
- Anointing Oil – The primary purpose for the anointing oil, both in the times we live in, and the times of The Bible, was to sanctify and set apart. So when we are in our prayer closets (war rooms), and we place the anointing oil on our foreheads, or mouth, or ears, or hands, or even feet, we are signifying that sanctified and set apart for Jesus. We are preparing our bodies for Christ’s presence. I suggest anointing yourself with this oil as soon as you enter your prayer closet. If you don’t have any prayer oil, I suggest going to your local grocery store, and purchasing some. It is usually in the aisles of the store. Get your pastor or spiritual leader to pray over the oil, and then get to anointing yourself with it!
- Prayer List – Now this is a simple list that contains all the people you want to bring to God in prayer. Listing their names on a sheet of paper or index card allows you to call their name out in prayer. Getting into the habit of doing this, not only deepens your relationship with God, but it also gets you into the habit of standing in the gap for someone else as an intercessor prayer warrior, much like Jesus does for us!
So now that you have your essentials you can add to the list to make your prayer (war) room all that you need it to be. Many women like to decorate their prayer room and add lights, pillows, blankets, chairs, etc. Whatever you need to make your prayer room your own, do so! If you set a daily schedule of what time you plan to go into your prayer room, what you do first, and then what’s next, it will become a routine way of incorporating prayer into your daily life. And eventually it will no longer feel like a routine but like a daily treat. My promise to you is that you make this prayer room and prayer apart of your daily life, you’ll experience Christ like never before. You’ll start to hear Him more, know what He’s thinking, trust Him more, and feel Him randomly throughout your day. I can tell you now, that it’s the absolute best feeling in the world! You’ll go to sleep in peace and wake up in peace. You’ll crave more and more of Him! So grab your prayer room essentials and go pray!
